HOW DO I ORDER AND WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?

• You tell us or ask for our advice on the car and model that you want to buy. We will source for you free of charge similar cars available at that particular time in the auctions. With over 100,000 cars to choose from weekly, it is very rare not to get the car that you want.
• We will then forward to you a complete specification sheet that shows you the exact car you want to buy, and, through JasAutoSolutions, an accompanying fully translated English version (for which we have to pay) of the same.
• The spec sheet is prepared by independent Government assessors and no car dealers are allowed to enter or interfere with it, hence making it a truly transparent and non-biased document. Click here to see a sample spec sheet.
• As a guideline, it shows you in depth the mileage, extras, previous proof of ownership and purpose (whether the vehicle was privately owned, leased or hired out, etc), any and all repaired or re-painted panels, accident repairs, grading and size of scratches or dents, condition of interior and material (leather or cloth). It also gives an indication of the condition of the engine, gearbox and transmissions.
• It also gives to you an indication of the grade of the car. The grade of a car in Japan (and Singapore for that matter), starts from 0 or “unclassified” all the way upto 8 in increments of 0.5. However, vehicles that have had accidents clearly indicate “A” and are hence easy to identify and eliminate.
• As a rule of thumb, a grade 4 or above means that the car is excellent, with 5 being given to a car that looks and drives “as good as new.” The next 3 are then given on merits of very low mileages and lack of any blemishes. Obviously 8 is then given to new cars which can on occasion be found in auctions as well.
• Finally it shows you the start of the bidding price. Please note that in no way whatsoever does the start price give you an indication of the final selling price. This is an amount just set by the owner/s of the car in order for it to qualify for auction status.   
• You have now chosen your car together with the grade and specs that you want (please bear in mind that you cannot bring a car into Kenya that is more then seven years old). 

WHAT DOES IT COST TO BRING IN?

• We will give to you an all inclusive price. This means that the cost of the car from the auction (this is taken from statistics of similar cars that have been sold in the auction over the last three months), JAAI inspection (this is a mandatory physical inspection carried out by the Japanese Government to all cars being shipped to Kenya under instructions from the Kenyan government), de-registration (log-book) of the vehicle and a translation of the same,  inland delivery to a shipping port and couriering the documents once the car is in the port awaiting shipment.
• There is a separate but vital small element and that is to insure the car from the point of sale to its destination in Mombasa (or wherever you may want to off-load it- remember that we can ship the car to the port of your choice, e.g. Dubai, Dar-es-Salaam). This usually costs about 200$. *
• The next item is the freight charges, the system generally used is known as the “roro” system. This means roll on and roll off the ship at its appointed destination. The average price of this is about 1100$. *
• The combination of all of the above is known as the CIF figure for the car, or “car, insurance and freight.”

HOW AND WHOM DO I PAY?

• An auction buy is a straight deal; 15% of the money must be available in advance before a bid can be made on the car. This will actually secure the purchase of the unit. When the bid is successful, the balance of the funds must reach the supplier within the next 4 working days. If it does not, we unconditionally lose part of our deposit (permanently held on our behalf by the supplier in Japan) and the suppliers themselves lose the right to bid in that particular auction house for the next 6 weeks. These rules are strict and enforced to the letter in order to separate the genuine customers from the rest.
• The easiest and most effective form of payment would be through telegraphic transfer to our company’s clients’ account and we shall send it on straightaway. You may choose another mode of payment (i.e. banker’s cheque, cash, etc.) and this would be equally acceptable as well.
• Once the vehicle has been purchased, it would take a maximum of another 6 weeks for shipping and registration.
• Our charges for the whole transaction are minimal, and you would find the quality of the car and what you’ve paid for would be second to none as compared to the local market.
• Once the vehicle is on the ship, things continue to move quickly. First, we must make sure that all the relevant documents are on hand to clear the car and pay the duty immediately the ship docks. These have to be handed over to a reputable clearing agent/s who will lodge them with the customs department whilst the car is on the high seas.
• By the time the car gets here, we are ready with a duty and Vat payable figure and the clearing agents are ready to do their part. This is critical because if your documents are not ready you may be subjected to a “Damerrage” (or penalty) charge for goods not collected in time.
• Once you pay for these, your car can be cleared within 2 days and it is now upon you whether you want to personally collect the car or to have it delivered to you by car carrier. This usually costs another 12,000 + VAT * and insurance is compulsory for this purpose.
